Tools for your PC - anti-virus, anti-spam, & PC performance boost
We constantly work with clients whose PC's are infected and corrupted with viruses, spyware and malware of various types, and we find ourselves recommending the same products again and again. To make our (and hopefully our clients!) life easier, we've listed these products below.
We've used (or currently use) all these ourselves - so recommend them as being effective for most users in preventing Spyware, Viruses, Spam and other PC malware* that can make your online life a misery - we hope you'll find them helpful (as many of our clients have), most come with Free Trials. ( We recommend you always take a backup of your data and/or create a system restore point before installing any software as we don't support these products, they are listed here for information and you use them at your own risk, but we haven't encountered issues with them and generally they can greatly improve a machine which is almost unusably slow or locked up due to viruses or spyware etc).
Some programmes are 'all in ones' (typically called 'suites') and some just target specific nuisances and threats, like spam, or viruses.
If you are already running an antivirus programme such as Norton Anti-Virus, but it is not proving effective, clashing with other programmes or behaving eratically, you should in most cases uninstall it properly before installing any replacement product. If there is a gap between uninstalling one product and installing a replacement, we recommend you disconnect your pc from the internet during this period, (until, e.g., your new antivirus is in place) to ensure you are not infected during this 'window of opportunity' for malware if you go online in an unprotected state.
